National Historic Landmark

Sputnik IV Crash Site
On September 5, 1962, a chunk of the Russian satellite Sputnik IV crashed into the middle of North 8th Street, bringing the space age directly to Manitowoc. The impact location is marked with a brass ring. Located just in front of the Rahr West Art Museum. Some locals believe it's good luck to make a wish while touching the ring.
